America’s Bilingual Century

How Americans Are Giving the Gift of Bilingualism to Themselves, Their Loved Ones, and Their Country

A conversation with Steve Leveen & Fabrice Jaumont

Imagine an America where kids have even more chance for success, thanks to their experiences in dual language and community-based heritage language schools. Where businesses gain an edge globally because they can literally speak their customers’ language. Where lifelong learners can become more than tourists in other countries and finely hone their brainpower. Watch this webinar with author Steve Leveen and Fabrice Jaumont presented by The Coalition of Community-Based Heritage Language Schools & CALEC.

The Bilingual Revolution Webinars

Hosted by author, Fabrice Jaumont, these webinars will uncover how parents can make a difference in their community by starting dual-language programs and providing opportunities for more children to become multilingual.

The Bilingual Revolution

Part I
Community Outreach
Creating a base of interested families

In order to create a dual-language program in your local school you’ll need to connect with dozens, if not hundreds, of individuals in your community and form a base of interested families. You can start by forming a core group of parents you know and trust. These are parents who will take part in your vision even if they do not have children who will benefit from this initiative. This webinar helps you create the right proposal for your community, identify partners, and create committees that will support your initiative. Guest speakers include parents who successfully created dual-language programs as well as school principals.

Part II
Locating a School Finding a host

Once you’ve gathered a group of parents who share your goal of launching a dual-language program, you must prepare your data and present it to a principal and/or a school community. Before approaching a school principal with your proposal, it is advisable to build a rationale for a local strategy as well as a persuasive argument that will help you convince the school principal as well as other appropriate administrators of the importance of your proposal. This webinar will help you develop a convincing rationale and develop a strategy to locate a school. Guest speakers include parents who have successfully created dual-language programs as well as school principals.

Part 3
Launching the Program Together is better

Once the school principal is on board, you and your group must focus your attention on several other aspects. Most importantly, you will have to secure the required number of families, make sure that they enroll their children in the program, provide support at all levels, organize fundraisers, and create partnerships. Guest speakers include parents who have successfully created dual-language programs as well as school principals and dual-language education advocates.
