Description
The English Patchwork is a natural method of English teaching, which means it does not rely on another language to teach. Taking hints from context, marginal notes, and the book’s beautiful illustrations, students must figure out the meaning of each new word and grammatical concept as they read. Keeping themselves actively engaged with the language throughout each lesson, students are able to learn more efficiently, and achieve fluency much faster. At the end of each chapter, new grammar topics are explained in English as well, and followed by exercises and questions. Those sections help those students who are studying alone, but also provide material for teachers to use in class. So, follow the many characters of this book as they guide you through your lessons! You will learn about professions with Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Johnson, and about the shapes and numbers with Lucía, Jamal, Sophia, and Juan in class, you will play together with Xiang, Bradley, Alessandra, and Hannah at the gym, and you will listen to Fatima’s stories from the One Thousand and One Nights in the cafeteria —all the while learning to speak English!
About the authors
Pedro Tozzi studied classics and education at Columbia University. He is particularly fond of the way storytelling (a big social institution even today, but especially in classical societies) serves an educational purpose, making learning fun and keeping up with the memory of a society. Giovanna de Lima lives in Brazil and is a self-taught artist. She began with realistic portraits of actual people, but turned to illustrations as her unique style began to develop.
