The Other Shore is the closing volume of Maristella Lorch’s auto-biographical trilogy Beyond Gibraltar, the story of generations of strong women covering more than a century, including two World Wars, the Cold War, and the explosion of terrorism. Maristella de Panizza Lorch is Professor Emerita of Italian and Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Barnard College and Columbia University, as well as Founding Director Emerita of the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America. CALEC’s President delivered the keynote during the annual meeting of New York State Association of World Language Administrators (NYSAWLA), a professional organization that supports World Language leaders with professional development, advocacy efforts, access to resources and the development and administration of regional language exams.
Fabrice was able to present CALEC’s work and share success stories from the Bilingual Revolution, and presented examples from the Arabic, Chinese, German, Greek, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish dual-language programs and parent-led initiatives.

Spécialiste du bilinguisme et du développement du langage, Anne Mazuis Goldenberg accompagne les enfants qui font face à des troubles du langage, des dysphasies, ou des problèmes d’attention et de concentration en lien avec les apprentissages. Elle est mon invitée pour ce 7ème épisode de Révolution Bilingue.
Passage par la Belgique et le Luxembourg, pays dans lesquels cette praticienne évolue depuis longtemps, pour évoquer le contexte linguistique spécifique de cette région multilingue mais aussi le rôle essentiel de la logopédie, terme utilisé en Belgique, au Luxembourg et en Suisse, et qui signifie l’art de corriger les fautes et les défauts de prononciation. FIGT’s New York Tri-State Affiliate hosted a workshop held at the New York Estonian House where we presented some of CALEC’s initiatives in support of parents and educators who seek to create more dual-language programs. CALEC advisory committee member Stefania P. Clegg, and Bernedetta Scardovi-Mounier, talked about the Italian dual-language program that was recently launched in Harlem.

P.S./I.S. 30 Mary White Ovington School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn hosts New York City’s only Arabic dual-language program. From pre-K to 5th grade, and soon 8th grade, it is always a joy to see the children flourish in two languages. After several months of extensive collaboration and planning, the Arabic dual-language program at P.S./I.S.30 opened its doors in September 2013. The dual-language curriculum was designed as a split day, where morning classes are taught in Arabic and afternoon classes in English, or vice versa.
